The Center for Theatre Research is an independent theatre in New York City known for its plays in rep, workshops for actors and writers, play readings, support for emerging artists, movie screenings, and more.

After a decade of staging plays in living rooms and other non-traditional venues around the city, our theatre company found a home in an industrial Greenpoint loft in 2023 and became known as the Brooklyn Center for Theatre Research (BCTR). Despite being off the beaten path, our shows have nonetheless been reviewed by The New York Times, New York Magazine and The Guardian, and have made their way to San Francisco, London, Stockholm and Sydney. In 2026, the theatre moved to its new location near Manhattan’s Union Square.
